Facebook Expanding Live Video Sharing to Android This Week

Facebook will greatly expand its live video sharing feature this week as it rolls the ability out to Android device owners in the United States. iPhone owners got live video sharing a month ago.

The social network has been aggressive in its live video sharing rollout, and notes that people enjoy the feature: Facebook members watch videos three times longer when they're live versus when they're recorded, the company said in a blog post.

People with Android devices have already been able to view live shared video, and have been doing so at a high rate. Facebook says that over 50 percent of the people watching shared live video have been on Android devices.

Facebook now offers live video sharing in over 30 countries. It will continue this rollout in the coming weeks, but didn't offer a specific timeline.

During the recent Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Spain, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a surprise appearance at the Samsung press conference. Zuckerberg talked about Facebook's move to let members share 360-degree virtual reality video live to their followers.

“Pretty soon we’re going to live in a world where everyone has the power to share and experience whole scenes as if you’re just there, right there in person,” Zuckerberg said at MWC 2016.
