Elemental Partners on 4K Live Video Demo During Osaka Marathon
Providing an early demonstration of 4K live video streaming, Portland, Oregon-based video solutions company Elemental will work with Japanese telecommunications operator K-Opticom (K-OPT) to provide a live 4K Ultra HD HEVC stream of the Osaka Marathon, taking place Sunday. K-Opticom will use Elemental Live systems for HEVC encoding of the 4K/59.94p video, which will be taken with Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K cameras. The 4K cameras will be set up at the race's midpoint and finish line, mounted with an AJA Ki-Pro Quad and transmitting video to the Elemental systems through live 3G-SDI interfaces.
The Elemental systems will then encode the live video in real-time into HEVC 4Kp30 video, which will stream over K-OPT optical fiber to an NTT Docomo decoder and finally be rendered to an 84-inch Sony 4K Bravia television. Viewers will be able to see the high-resolution result at a K-OPT exhibit set in the International Exhibition Center (Intex) Building 2 in Osaka.
4K video has four times the resolution of HD video. According to K-Opticom president Takao Fujino, the combination of Elemental's software-based architecture and his company's optical fiber network is crucial for pulling off this early demonstration of 4K live video streaming. K-Opticom is a subsidiary of the Kansai Electric Power Company.
